Registration and Scheduling

Registration and exam scheduling will take place with both IEEE and Prometric. Let’s begin by walking you through the process.

  1. Register for the exam with IEEE
  2. Receive Authorization to Test (ATT) notice from IEEE
  3. Schedule your exam appointment with Prometric
  4. Receive appointment confirmation from Prometric
  5. Take your exam at a Prometric test center on the day of your exam appointment

Register for the Exam

To register online for the exam, visit the registration page. Payment of the total examination fee is due at the time of registration. The total exam fee includes a nonrefundable $120 registration fee. After registering, IEEE will send candidates an e-mail containing their ATT notice, which includes information necessary to schedule an appointment to take the exam at a Prometric test center.

Exam Eligibility Period

The exam eligibility period is the period of time during which you are eligible to take the examination.  In 2010, the eligibility period starts on the day your registration is processed and ends on the last day of the upcoming or current testing window.  You must take the examination on an available test date within the eligibility period or you will forfeit your total examination fee.

Schedule Exam Appointment

Candidates are encouraged to schedule an exam appointment as early as possible after receiving their ATT notice. Exam appointments are scheduled on a first-come/first-served basis and test center seats fill quickly.

Visit the Prometric website at www.prometric.com/IEEEbiometrics to schedule a date and time to take the CBP exam at one of Prometric’s test centers. Candidates can also schedule an exam by calling the Prometric Regional Contact Center serving their area. Refer to the IEEE CBP Candidate Bulletin for Regional Contact Center information.

Candidates are encouraged to review the test center rules, which are published in the IEEE CBP Certification Bulletin, before the day of the exam.

Exam Rescheduling or Canceling

Exam appointments can be rescheduled or canceled with Prometric up to five business days before the test; however, fees may apply. Refer to the IEEE CBP Candidate Bulletin for Prometric’s deadlines and fees for rescheduling or canceling exam appointments.

Registration Transfer Requests

Candidates who have not scheduled an examination appointment with Prometric or who have canceled their exam appointment with Prometric at least five business days before their exam appointment may submit a request to transfer their current registration with IEEE to the next available testing window only. Candidates must submit a Transfer Request Form and $120 transfer fee no later than two business days before the end of the current eligibility period. Refer to the IEEE CBP Candidate Bulletin for more information.
